The Complete History of the Miss World Pageant

The Miss World was created in England in 1951 to compete against the Miss Europe. The Miss World pageant become the most successful international beauty pageant reaching almost 100 contestants each year from counties all over the world. The Presidents of Miss World were Erik Morley (1918-2000) and now his wife Julia Morley. The Miss World telecast is viewed for more than 2 millions viewers in more than 200 countries.

The main duties of Miss World are to raise money for children health, Aids causes and other important foundations. Miss World calls their platform efforts, that has raised millions of dollars to help those in need, “Beauty With a Purpose.”

The current Miss World Crown was a gift specially made by Queen Elizabeth of England for the Pageant and is the same crown that is used today.

Miss World Records

  • India and Venezuela are the ones with the most winners with 5 titles each.
  • Sweden (1951-1952), United Kingdom (1964-1965) India (1999-2000) are the Back to backs countries on the pageant history.
  • Angela Visser Miss Universe 1989 went to Miss World 1988 and didn’t make the Semifinalists. Iceland won the crown that year.
  • Michelle Mc Lean Miss Universe 1992 went to Miss World 1991 as the Queen of Africa and made the finalist. Venezuela won the Miss World crown that year.
  • The most successful Miss World ever by experts is Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai, from India
