Your pageant make-up is an essential part of your pageant image.  It is important to think of each look as an extension of yourself.  What is a great dress without a killer shoe?  What is a Queen with a crown? It is just not a good look. In this article I will walk you through choosing a make-up style that is appropriate for you and also suggest some lines of cosmetics that I love!

The magic words for an interview face: Natural and Professional. We want the judges to see you, not a stage ready face. This simply means that you want to choose softer colors that are more appropriate for a daytime look. Fresh, awake, and vibrant is always a good place to aim for. Miss Corpus Christi 1998, or Eva Longoria from Desperate Housewives, has mastered the art of fresh faces.  Here are some things you need to do to create a interview/daytime look:

1. Start on a solid foundation – Make sure to focus on the eyes. Look out for dark circles or redness that can make you tired and older. Conceal problem areas with a well matched foundation color. Handle your face with light hands. Its the only face you’ve got!

2. Don’t shy away from color during the day. Just choose a color that compliments your skin tone and eye color. Apply an eyeliner to the top lid only in a dark color. Blush is a must! Sun-kissed cheeks look great on everyone. Think bronze or light pink. Stay away from red cheeks in your interview.

3. Resist the urge to wear a deep color on your lips. I know its sexy, but we want to be approachable. Just think, would you wear that color to a school visit? A nude lip or colored glass will do the trick.

4.  Blend, Blend, Blend!! There is nothing worse than seeing lines of colors on your face. A good way to judge this is to take a step or two back from the mirror.

Pageant Makeup

Stage Makeup or an Evening Look is the fun part. Its all about drama not drama queens though. This is where you can go all out. You want to make sure that the judges can see your beautiful facial features without looking like a drag queen. Well, some of those Queens know their stuff! Below are some tips and instructions for your perfect performance:

1. Now is the time to use color!! Choose a color that is deep yet not overpowering for your skin tone. Don’t be afraid to use a rich color for both you eyes and lips. Just not the same color.

2. Bring out the eyes by lining both the top and bottom lashes. Remember to put the darkest shadows on the outer edges with a lighter (shimmery) shadows on the lid. Applying lashes is easy but require practice. Tip: cut your lashes to a size that is comfortable for your lid.

3. Red lips are also classic. Apply a gloss to the center of the lips to give them a kissable look. With a touch of Vaseline to the teeth you will have no problem smiling during your crowning. Not many young ladies do this step anymore, but don’t forget to line your lips. Its helps to define and keep lipstick in check.

With these tips, I hope you are ready to be the Show Stopper that your already are! When choosing a look be creative and unafraid to pick colors that may not be traditional. Above all else have fun!
