Katie Stam, Miss America 2009, is the first Miss America to ever be crowned from the state of Indiana. The 22-year-old communications major has had many opportunities open up for her since being crowned in January. From celebrity parties to Super Bowl XLIII Stam is getting to see America from a completely different perspective. As the National Goodwill Ambassador for Children’s Miracle Network and the official spokesperson for Zerosmoke Katie is traveling throughout the country encouraging the young and old to stop smoking while inspiring young girls to pursue their dreams. For her the road to Las Vegas and the Miss America crown was a challenging yet worthwhile journey. As with all dreams, the destination will in the beginning seem almost out of touch but when the dream becomes a reality all of the challenges are looked upon as stepping stones for the victory achieved.
