Miss California Carrie Prejean and Gay Marriage Resolved

By now everyone knows how Miss California, Carrie Prejean feels about the subject of same sex marriage (and that she as breast implants). As a result there are many other questions that are surfacing now by those in the pageant world revolving around the question asked by Perez Hilton. Here are some of the questions:

Should this question have been asked? ~ Absolutely, when you are going for a national title you are going to need to deal with national issues. As Miss USA you will have to meet and get along with many different people from a variety of different backgrounds and beliefs therefore the question on gay marriage is a must. Pageantry is a glorified interview process and in any interview you ask job related questions. In pageantry issues dealing with homosexuality is a given.

Was Carrie Prejean’s answer right or wrong? ~ Miss California was right in her belief because the answer was opinion however, she was wrong in her delivery. There is a way to answer a question such as, “Do you believe in same sex marriage?” according to your conviction and not ostracize anyone else (especially the judges) in the process. My opinion is that she was not well prepared for the question and that is why she was fumbling over her words.

Prepare for Tough Questions

Moral of the story, ask yourself the tough questions in private while you are preparing for a pageant interview and onstage interview. Chasity Hardman, Miss Georgia 2009 and first runner up to Miss America, had the best interview out of all the Miss America contestants. She created a book full of every realevent current event that could be asked during her pageant interview. She placed special emphasis on the controversial issues such as gay marriage and religion. If Carrie Prejean would have done the same Miss U.S.A. might have been from the state of California.
