“What?! Miss United States is now going to Miss World?”
Imagine my surprise when I was serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the Miss United States Pageant and am about to announce who the winner of Miss United States 2014 was when director Chris Wilmer comes onto center stage and brings the director of business operations for Miss World out to make pageant history.
If you are not familiar, Miss World is known as the oldest, most reputable pageant in history and up until the Miss United States pageant all of the representatives from the US has been appointed by a modeling agency. With this single act Chris has put himself on the map as one of the big 3 pageants.
Anyways…I don’t know how he managed to keep this a secret from me, his staff and the girls but this move was genius from a marketing perspective. And then when Miss World, Megan Young, walked out on the stage my mouth dropped as you can see in the video.
I am beyond thrilled to be the first human being in the history of pageant to ever crown a contestant from the US who has advanced to the Miss World pageant. Thank you Chris for allowing me to be a part of this and helping “The Pageant Planet” to truly go global.
