“Whatever you have, you must make the most of it.  Rest assured that you can transform yourself, no matter where you started from.  The most important body part is the mind.  With the will and know—how, you can perform near miracles.”

-Stuart McRobert, author of “Brawn”

When a you decide to enter a pageant and want to transform your body you must realize there are certain factors that will affect your ability to lose body fat, build muscle, improve flexibility, and increase cardiovascular strength.

4 Pageant Weight Loss Tips

  1. Basal metabolic rate (BMR).  Your BMR is the amount of calories you burn at rest to maintain your vital functions.  Some people do have higher metabolisms than other.  Men typically have a higher BMR than women.  This is do to on average men having more muscle mass than women.
  2. Number of fat cells.  You are born with a predetermined amount and unless you have liposuction you will not lose fat cells.  You can however, decrease the size of the cells.  With poor eating habits and/or lack of exercise you can increase the amount of fat cells.
  3. Size of limbs, joint circumference, and muscle insertions.  Some people have long limbs; some may have small or large joints.  Where the muscle inserts to the bone may even have an affect.  However, none of these will inhibit the loss of fat.  They just impact the look an individual may have.
  4. Muscle fiber size and type will also affect ones ability.  If you have a large number of muscle fibers you are more apt to build muscle and in turn burn more calories.  1 lb. of muscle will burn 20-100 calories per day while 1 lb of fat will only burn 8 calories.  The type will affect how one trains.  Those individuals who are endurance athletes will predominately have more slow twitch fibers and will excel in high rep/low weight training and cardio.  While those who excel in explosive activities have more fast twitch.  These individuals tend to build muscle easier.

The digestive system and food sensitivities.  Some people can digest food easier, thereby utilizing the food they eat more efficiently.  Food sensitivities can limit choices, thus making eating healthy boring and redundant.  This is why it is so important to experiment with new “healthy” recipes
