Popular Trends in Pageant Cocktail Dresses
I got the opportunity to catch up with Kim Collins, VP of merchandising at PromGirl to ask her some questions about this season’s trends in pageant cocktail dresses. Q. Where do most girls go wrong when selecting a cocktail dress for an appearance?
A. I think it’s easy to get caught up in a really beautiful dress without thinking if it’s right for your body. Girls must consider if the color of the cocktail dress complements their skin tone and if the shape of the dress accentuates the right parts of their body. If a pageant cocktail dress isn’t right for your body it will end up wearing you. There is a perfect dress for everyone, you just have to find it.
Q. Let’s talk color. What colors are in this year?
A. Right now we are seeing a lot of blues, purples, deep jewel tones and very light colors like creams and whites. Beading and embellishment is also very popular for pageant dresses.
Q. What style and cut of a pageant cocktail dress is popular for this pageant season?
A. We are seeing the strapless dresses with a sweetheart neckline really sell right now, as well as the one shoulder dress. Our customers want what’s hot right now, and they look to the red carpet for inspiration. We saw a lot of one shoulder this season on the red carpets, as well as strapless flowing dresses, so that’s definitely where the trends start.
Q. Any final tips regarding pageant queens and their pageant cocktail dresses?
A. At PromGirl we think that a fabulous dress can really boost a girl’s self-esteem. There’s nothing like putting on a gorgeous evening gown or cocktail dress and feeling like a princess. Girls should make sure a dress makes them feel glamorous, elegant and unstoppable for their special event. If a dress doesn’t make you feel like a million bucks, it’s not the right dress!
