At any international beauty pageant, every year the countries directors and the delegates want the crown but there is an obstacle to fight, and that obstacle is the best trained delegate of them all: Miss Venezuela.
Venezuela is the most successful country in beauty pageants with a record of 6 Miss Universe, 5 Miss World and 5 Miss International crowns among hundreds of another minor titles won over the five continents.
But what is behind of all this success, why are the Venezuelan girls the best trained and why do they always win or at least made the Top 10 or Top 5 at any international Pageant?
To get that answer it is important to know about the past, present and future of Miss Venezuela pageant system.
The Miss Venezuela Beauty Pageant born in Caracas in 1952 sponsored by Pan-American Airlines with the purpose to get delegates to represent the country on the internationals competitions of Miss Universe and Miss World.
In 1955, there was a girl on a bus stop in Caracas (take a trip to Caracas, walk in a mall and you will see potential beauty queens all over!), and one of the members of Miss Venezuela asked her to enter the competition but she wasn’t really sure to attend as in the 50´s beauty pageants weren’t what they are today and she was a simply secretary with not to much money to spend on this. The organizers insisted and a high-class lady from Venezuela named Carola Reveron offered help to the girl with make up and wardrobe.
The name of that secretary, Miss Venezuela 1955, Susana Djuim. That year she became the first Miss World for Venezuela and ever better, the first Latin America to win crown.
The year to follow was not good for Venezuela on the Miss Universe and Miss World scene. They only received a few semifinalists on both pageants but no crowns.
In the 70´s, Venevision Network Channel asked the National Director that they wanted the crown of Miss Universe for the country without any results. But Gustavo Cisneros President and Owner of Venevision and a very well know Worldwide Manager knew about a boy working for the Miss Venezuela named Osmel Sousa that was behind the winners of the Miss Venezuela title. Immediately a sister company was named to the channel and Sousa was named President of the newly created Miss Venezuela Organization. Smart move as in 1979 Venezuela won for the first time the title of Miss Universe with Maritza Sayalero with Sousa behind of every single detail.
Cisneros seeing the potential on Miss Venezuela invested a large budget to the organization to do anything they want to get more international crowns for Venezuela:
Osmel started then the most amazing training ever known that includes:
- Diets with recognized specialist
- Workout at the best gym and trainers in Caracas
- Plastics Surgery if needed
- Evening Gowns of well know international designers from Carolina Herrera to Dior, just to mention a few of them and it is important to mention that Miss Venezuela flights to each pageant at least with 8 baggage’s full of clothes, shoes and anything she needs to shine from the beginning to the end of the competition
- Make Up classes, Miss Venezuela have to arrange herself without the help of anybody at the pageants.
- Oratory
- English classes
- Appearances on Venevision shows by a year to reach confidence with cameras and stages.
- Modeling training for photos and boardwalks.
- Cultural, Religious and Political classes.
- And the list goes on.
The results speak for itself with all the crowns won worldwide.
The major titles won for Venezuela are:

So, Osmel Sousa has done all, but he respond immediately by saying, “Sorry I want the third Miss Universe crown in a row and we are working hard to get it!”
