The Right Way to Do Pageant Paperwork

Choosing a wardrobe, the dreaded interview questions, talent routines and if you ate too much over the holidays- all these things can fill your head. It seems like you could do well in pageantry even if you don’t take your paperwork seriously. Hey, there is no scoring on your contestant profile or your application, right? You can fill out your pageant paperwork quickly, and turn it in whenever. That thinking could be your downfall.

Paperwork is Paramount

Paperwork is paramount to any pageant production. If you do not submit your paperwork by the deadline, then you are forcing a rush on last minute details concerning the commentary. If the person writing for the MC has been working for many hours on the pageant and then you send them an email saying, “Sorry, I forgot about my paperwork.” You will probably get a response saying it was no trouble. However, you missing the deadline not only delays the commentary of the pageant but also sets the expectation that if you win your reign will proceed likewise. That is what deadlines are for.

How does this affect your scores? Judges read your pageant paperwork and hear the commentary. If you have hurried through your pageant resume, or the script writer has rushed, the best impression won’t be made. Or worse yet, if the scriptwriter is irked, they might choose information that they think is least flattering. Taken in by the judges, it will influence their choices. If they like you or don’t could be altered by your beauty pageant paper work.

Pageant Paperwork that Stands Out

Your pageant paperwork should be designed to make you stand out from the crowd. If everyone’s favorite movie is “The Notebook”, even if you love it also, find another more original response. Don’t be boring. Find another woman you admire other than Oprah, Hillary and Mom. If you hunt, consider all the vegetarians and PETA people you could upset. The judges are human. If they don’t like your personality, it could subconsciously make them not like your dress, your earlobes, whatever… When you are asked about your weaknesses, keep them light and fun. Talk about your need to peel price tags from everything.  Don’t reveal large flaws to anybody, especially those with the power to change your future.

Why would you go through spray tanning, waxing, butt glue and what is happening in Bosnia just to wear a crown and wake up the next day like nothing happened? If that is your intention, you are a waste of a sash. Make sure you show the judges why you deserve the title at all times. Your available seconds to make an impression are precious few. Whether you are doing the talking or not, use those seconds to show your best self.

Get your paperwork ordered with plenty of time to put thought into each question, and allow friends or your pageant coach to look your documents over. Allow enough time to do a rewrite. If you are told suggestions that you agree with, you want to have time to act on them.

And remember, don’t be late!
