Tips on How to Walk in Evening Gown

evening gown, dresses, gowns, miss america

So many times, pageant contestants forget one of the most important things to practice. Walking in their evening gown. Of course, you know how to walk already, but do you know how to walk with confidence in high heels on stage while being judged by the panel and audience?

So during a pageant how do you walk in an evening gown? Well, your hands should be down by your side with you’re the palm of your hands pointing at your thighs. As you are walking, it is perfectly fine to swing your arms just a little bit. Relax those shoulders and keep your chin held high.

Evening Gown Walk vs Walking in Swimsuit

As you are pacing yourself, you should take note that the pace is going to be different for the swimsuit and evening gown. As you have the evening gown on, you should walk slowly, with confidence. While you have that swimsuit on, you should have a pace that is a bit faster with some pep. Whatever you do, during both of these competitions, you should keep one foot going in front of the other. In general follow the rhythm of the music, as the song will help dictate the tempo of your walk.

As you prepare for the pageant be sure to carve out time to practice walking in your evening gown and swimsuit. When the competition is near, you will already know how to walk and the process will look natural to the judges. As you are walking on stage, you will need to have all of your concentration towards the judges (especially the least attractive male judge as this will give you brownie points). No one else in the room should matter to you at this point.

Smile

Don’t forget to smile and look as if you are having the time of your life. No one wants to watch someone on stage that appears as if they are miserable. If you are having a problem maintaining a smile then think of a memorable, joyous occasion.

As a side note, the day of the pageant should not be the first time you have worn your shoes. As you practice walk in the actual shoes that you are going to wear during the competition. This will help to break them in and will allow you to walk with complete confidence just as you have practiced.  By using these tips as well as ones that you already know, you will be on your way to securing a great score in the evening wear competition.
