Nine Miss USA 2017 hopefuls donned a Mac Duggal creation in preliminaries and they lit up the stage with their on-trend ensembles.
5 Trends Found on Mac Duggal Gowns Worn at Miss USA 2017 Preliminaries
We have seen a lot of white and gold and general neutral tones in pageant gowns of recent past. But color is making its way back to the spotlight and more than half of the Mac Duggal gowns featured color.
Iowa hit the stage in a remarkable royal blue ensemble. It features lace cutouts on the side that outline her figure. The belt accentuates her waist and the deep V neckline offers some subtle sex appeal that is complemented by the modest, winged cap sleeves that draw the eye to her beaming smile.
Modest cutouts offer tasteful sexuality while providing coverage for an elegant look.
The side cutouts on Colorado’s green gown offer eye-catching detail while striking her pose and walking her walk. The cutouts feature a waist accentuating detail to give her a perfect hourglass silhouette.
Rhode Island offers an elegant look with her lace, sparkle and cutout details. Even with so much going on with the dress, the gown doesn’t overwhelm her. The cutout takes the place of a belt or other horizontal detail and draws the eye in while giving her shape in her waist.
The cape trend is still in. Replacing traditional long trains, the capes fill the grand stage with drama and elegance and lead all eyes to the girl on stage; much like Ice Queen Elsa’s did when she finally learned to “Let It Go.”
While the dress certainly is reminiscent of Miss South Dakota USA 2016’s Miss USA dress, Montana goes for the monochromatic look instead. The simple elegance of the dress complements her edgy hairstyle and modern smoky eye.
Way to go, Idaho! The deep burgundy color of this gown goes great with her brunette hair and skin tone. The cape is focused on the back rather than curving around the shoulders and acts as a frame as she walks for a more regal look.
4. Detailed Skirts
We often see detail on the bodice, but now designers are also putting detail on the skirt, ensuring eyes are always on you from smile to toes.
Her dress is much like the dress Deshauna Barber, Miss USA 2016, was crowned in. Fringe is an often forgotten about detail that is fun and flattering on everyone. The fringe is a mix of a deep gold Swarovski bead and light gold bugle bead fringe giving it lots of movement and sparkle. While Deshauna’s dress was two toned, Illinois’ sticks to just gold tones, making the gown pop on stage. (Read: Top 10 Preliminary Evening Gowns at Miss USA 2017)
Minnesota’s gown allows the popular floral trend to hit the stage in a whimsical white gown with 3D flowers. But, plot twist, it actually has a pants surprise! The hidden pant allows for a fashion forward look and stunning onstage reveal. This gown partners a soft romantic feel with an edgy pant for a show-stopping statement piece.
5. High Necklines
Modern Miss USA contestants have favored a plunging neckline, but trends are reverting back to the 90’s when high necklines were all the rage.
This dress offers a lot in the detail department. A see-through ballgown skirt shows off her legs without the need for a slit. The deep keyhole detail adds a touch of cleavage and the on-trend high neckline gives a fresh look to a classic black dress. The cut of the dress allows her to show off her toned shoulders and legs while still being elegant and sophisticated.
Another shimmering, see-through skirt style, Oregon’s gown is a fresh pop of color with a classic off-the-shoulder neckline rarely seen in pageantry today. She gives a nod to the high neckline trend with a choker necklace in a different color than the gown itself. The light blue of the gown works great with her light skin and blonde hair.
While it is certainly important to be on trend in your Miss USA wardrobe, working with the designer to gauge what will be in and what is coming into its own time to shine again will ensure you get an on-trend and timeless look you’ll be sure to be proud of when you look back on your time as a titleholder.
