About Monica Spear’s movie

Movie director Gomez Ysea was planning on working with Spear, but the project was canceled after her murder. The pre-selection process for the movie of Monica’s life and death started back in 2017 with several castings and auditions in Carabobo, Venezuela. The project was approved by both Spear’s parents.

“Eternally grateful with every girl, actress, miss, and model that assisted to the casting to play Monica,” Gomez Ysea said. “After watching every video and audition we have decided to take the very difficult decision of choosing between the two: Gabriela Decena and Maira Alexandra. Maira Alexandra Rodriguez is the actress I chose to play Monica Spear and I take the responsibility it deserves.” (Read: Miss Tierra Venezuela 2014 Evening Gown: HIT or MISS?)

Maira Alexandra Rodriguez’ challenge

Rodriguez, also a former Venezuela titleholder, represented her country in the 2014 Miss Earth pageant where she was crowned Miss Earth Water.

“It is a huge responsibility to play such a sublime and real woman,” Rodriguez said. “It is not an easy task because I can maybe get to physically look like her but it is impossible to copy such a pure and passionate heart like Monica Spear’s. I humbly accept the challenge to play the woman that left a country with an eternal grief of unexpected loss and a bittersweet happiness of knowing that she lives among us.” (Read: Osmel Sousa Announces His Retirement from the Miss Venezuela Organization)

The film is expected to hit cinemas in the first trimester of 2018.
