About Maxine Medina

Maxine Medina, Miss Philippines 2016, has been open about the bullying encounters she has faced in her lifetime. First, she was bullied as a child. The former titleholder has since moved on from glamorous pageant stages to cameras and screens with her new acting career. In order to be successful, however, Medina needed to take acting lessons. During those lessons, her acting coach really wanted her to show anger and sadness to be able to portray it on the big screen. Medina said, “It was tough for me because I don’t get mad easily.” So, her coach brought up her time with Miss Universe, and sure enough, she was able to bring those emotions out.

Even though she was able to portray sadness and anger through her experiences, Medina does not think she will be taking on any really serious or dramatic roles anytime soon. She said, “I don’t think I will try drama any time soon; it’s too much for me. But, the movie has helped me overcome my insecurities.” (Read: How to Overcome Insecurities on Pageant Day)

About her upcoming film

Medina’s new role is in a horror film titled, “Spirit of the Glass 2: The Haunted,” which is set to premiere in theaters on November 1. She plays a diva, Lisette, who unknowingly opens another realm to a supernatural world by playing with a Ouija board. She will be starring alongside some more experienced actors like Cristine Reyes, Daniel Matsunaga, Benjamin Alves and Janine Gutierrez.

Medina really credits her co-stars for helping to make her less anxious while on set. She said that “there was pressure, of course. But Direk Joey told me to relax and just savor the moment.” While she enjoyed filming, she is not sure what is next in her career.

Congratulations, Maxine, on your new movie coming out November 1!
