Eating fat doesn’t make you fat, so don’t be scared on increasing your healthy fat intake as you prep for your next pageant. Fat is one of the three macronutrients your body needs for energy. It is essential in your diet.
To get the scoop on how to best incorporate nuts into your diet when training for a pageant, we asked personal trainer Scott Keppel to share some of his tips.
“Nuts can be a great snack for an individual looking to up her fat while prepping for a pageant,” Keppel said. “Walnuts, almonds and cashews tend to be the best choices when looking for quality fats. Be mindful that fats have 9 calories per gram so it is very easy to over eat your calories if you do not measure them out. Also, note that some individuals have sensitivities to nuts, which can cause bloating. I suggest you measure them and track how you’re feeling just like you would any other foods in your plan.”
Fats are the most satiating nutrient, which means they make you feel the fullest. The only catch is that it takes you longer to feel full from fats. This means portion control is a must! Measure out your nuts like Keppel suggests for best results. (Read: A Pageant Girl’s Guide to Portion Control)
