Growing up in a small farming town, I always dreamed of one day attending New York Fashion Week. It’s any true fashion lovers dream.
It’s the place where the next big designer and the next big trends emerge.
The streets are teeming with fashionistas and fashionistos sporting their own works of art while rushing from show to show.
The entire experience seemed invigorating and inspiring. I could not contain my excitement when I found out that my dream would be coming true as the Miss USA titleholders were invited to attend multiple shows during NYFW.
For you fashionable dreamers hoping to one day attend, keep working hard and one day you’ll be here too! Until then, I’m here to share with you my seven favorite looks from New York Fashion Week 2017.
Miss Idaho USA 2017’s Top Seven NYFW 2017 Looks for Your Next Pageant
1. The Modern Pantsuit
This two-piece, rose-colored set from Mac Duggal is my number one! It is so classic and chic! The high waisted cigarette leg pants balance the ruffled blouse and the shine allows an easy transition from day to evening. I imagine if Blair Waldorf were to run off on her own Roman Holiday, this is exactly what she would pack!
This modern and feminine look could rock any pageant interview or appearance.
2. The Caped Jumpsuit
Especially in the pageant world, nothing has been hotter than pantsuits and capes. Leave it to Mac Duggal to put them together in this stunning marigold caped pantsuit!
The empire waist elongates the line of the leg while the cape moved beautifully down the runway, making it a perfect pick for Runway or Fun Fashion. (Read: Runway and Fun Fashion What’s the Difference)
3. The Fashion Forward GirlBoss
The name Christopher Palu may sound familiar to those of you who, like me, are obsessed with Project Runway! This finalist from season 10 put on a breathtaking show!
Here is my favorite piece from his collection. This three-piece set is both sexy and sophisticated. The leather top and gold choker give the look a modern edge while the timeless ivory suit separates refine it.
If this doesn’t scream “powerful woman,” I don’t know what does! Consider this for your next interview in a fashion-forward pageant system. (Read: Top 10 Interview Outfits from Miss USA 2016)
4. The Classic with a Twist
I always describe my style as “classic with a twist,” and that is exactly how I would describe this dress by Sherri Hill. The off-the-shoulder, trumpet silhouette is a classic, but this electric teal color gives it new life!
Let me tell you, if I did not already have my gown for Miss USA, this would in the running! Timeless, electrifying and elegant – what more could you want in an evening gown?
5. The Dramatic Velvet Cape Dress
As I mentioned, we’ve witnessed the comeback of the classic cape and now designers are creating that movement in new ways. The second I saw this Bordeaux, caped, doubled slit gown, I knew it would be on my list!
The Bordeaux velvet is attached at the mock halter and flows out behind as the model makes her way down the runway. The double slit allows for some leg action while remaining tasteful and elegant. Another stunning piece by Mac Duggal perfect to make a dramatic entrance in evening gown or fun fashion.
6. The Printed Showstopper
Printed evening gowns are having a major moment right now – case in point by Olivia Culpo at the Golden Globes! This deep vee and embellished Sherri Hill masterpiece was a serious showstopper!
The embellished waist and cuffs break up the pattern and a center slit allows for ease of movement while working the runway. This is one evening gown I would love to have in my closet. While it doesn’t read true pageant evening gown, but would definitely work for Fun Fashion.
7. The High Fashion Cruella de Vil
There are certain pieces that hit the runway and cause an audible commotion of oohs and aahs, and this closing look from Christopher Palu was that piece!
While I am the first to say I am so over the sheer trend, I make an exception for greatness!
The opulent red faux fur coat brings the drama, almost sexy “Cruella de Vil.” As she hit the end of the runway, she slowly shimmied the coat off her shoulders and returned, coat trailing behind her fierce strut knowing that she just SHUT.IT.DOWN! Take note for your next Fun Fashion routine.
