Miss Maryland Teen USA 2017 Contestant Evening Gown
Megan Goins took this ultra-fitted mermaid gown to the Miss Maryland Teen USA 2017 competition last October and won herself a spot in the Top 15!
Black is an excellent choice to wear during the evening gown portion of a competition. It is bold, classic and chic. However, I normally wouldn’t recommend black as a Teen-appropriate color as it’s usually worn more during the Miss competition. But, in Megan’s case, it really looks great against her fair skin tone and stunning red hair!
This ultra-fitted, black velvet gown has a deep sweetheart neckline, off-the-shoulder sleeves, a crystal embellished band at her natural waistline, and a mermaid tulle skirt.
Velvet is certainly a style that we’ve seen more and more in pageants within the last several years and I love it! (Read: Why You Should Wear a Velvet Pageant Dress)
I also really like that the bottom of the gown has a mermaid skirting, as this gives the gown the youthfulness I believe is missing from the rest of the gown.

I love how Megan kept her hair down in big soft curls and swept to one side. This allows the look to remain classic while still showing off the extremely flattering sweetheart neckline and Megan’s stunning facial features.
Although this gown is stunning, I would have liked to see Megan in a more Teen-appropriate silhouette for her competition. This gown is going to be a MISS for me.
