Pageant Question About a Change You Would Make to Your City
Today’s Pageant Question of the Day is: What is one thing you would change about the city you live in?
Why this question was asked: This is a good “get to know you” question and shows the judges you can think on your feet.
This is how some of our Instagram followers answered the question:
Katie (katie.hodges): I love living in a small town. but there’s not really much to do other than go out to parties. I personally don’t take part in that so on the weekends when I don’t have pageant stuff to be at, I just sit at home. I wish there were a bowling alley or skating rink so we could have fun without drinking.
Arianna (staianoarianna): If there was one thing I could change about my city it would be the public schools. There are three major public schools in Greeley: West, Central and Northeridge. West is more geared towards sports, Central is more geared towards the Arts, and Northeridge is more geared towards the STEM subjects. This is great except you must live close to the school you go to which becomes an issue if a student wants to go to Centeral but lives near West. I would make each school more accessible to every student no matter where they live.
Alicia (aliciagcook): I’d like to have all retired seniors exempt from having to pay such high property taxes. My grandparents pay too much for their property. I have learned that there are senior citizens whose homes are paid for lose their houses because they can’t afford to pay high property taxes. I’d also like to see more of the arts like theater and after school activities. I’d love to have an election for a city youth council board who can meet with elected town officials to share these views and ideas.
Yvette (curvy_kidd): I live in a very small town that used to have an amazing bank holiday market that brought people from neighboring towns. Sadly our market and high street is finding it harder and harder to survive and compete with the supermarkets giants. I would love to change this so more people shopped local and continued to support local businesses in both the market and high street and keep hardworking family businesses in business.
Our favorite answer:
Maggie (maggieabaldwin): If I could change one thing about my city, it would be the divide between the conservatives and liberals. Especially with the recent election, everyone seems to be looking down on the people who do not share their point of view. When I go to school, even the students who are not yet eligible to vote are divided based on who their parents supported. My fear is that the political divides in my city will not get better over time. I don’t want anyone to feel isolated or alone because of their political beliefs. Everyone should feel like their opinion matters.
The judges would like this answer best because it is personal, relevant and backed up by reason. (Read: Pageant Question About Visiting Your City)
