Pageant Question About Increasing Military Spending
Today’s Pageant Question of the Day is: President Trump is proposing a $54 billion increase in military spending. What do you think of that proposal?
Why this question was asked: It is important to keep up with current events and be able to form and articulate opinions about them.
This is how some of our Instagram followers answered the question:
Carolyn (carolynkoepping): Ultimately, whether you personally agree with this or not, it is important to understand that President Trump is sticking to his campaign promises. One of his biggest campaign points was improving national security and at this point, he believes to accomplish this the funding spent on military needs to be increased in order to achieve his goal of a safer nation, which is a goal that I believe we can all agree on.
Katie (katie.hodges): I think it’s amazing he’s putting more emphasis on our military. We live in a world where we aren’t safe and yes that’s sad but it’s reality. By building up our military, President Trump is helping keep Americans safe which I think is an excellent decision on his part.
Emily (_embz_): I do not agree with this spending. The U.S. already spends more money on our military than the next six largest military countries combined. When you look at that statistic, I can’t imagine how $54 billion will give us more of an advantage than we already have. Instead, we should be investing that money into areas that we are falling behind in, such as public education.
Laura (ambassadordc): The United States spends the most on its military but also has the highest incarceration rates, and as a first world country our literacy rates are quite low. With this in mind, the spending that is being allocated to our military is not helping to alleviate many of the social issues American citizens face every day. We have a strong, powerful military and it’s important that our people have the opportunity to have power of their own.
Taylor (_taylormb_): I am very fond of President Trump’s proposition to increase the military spending budget. This move is just one of many examples of him keeping his campaign promises, something that many Americans value greatly. I respect that his utmost priority is the safety of our country and this proposition proves that it is his intention to follow through with it.
Karina (karina.stagram): I do not agree with this. I believe that we already have a big enough debt and that if he does plan on spending big money like this, I believe that it should go to the future of education, being that the children are the future of our country.
Stephanie (realstephaniebrown): As someone with a little brother who is joining the Marines, it makes me feel much better to know that our president values him and others who have the same passion and that he is willing to make a decision to protect him and make his choice to serve our country, and the American people, easier.
Our favorite answer:
Ally (allywarneke): The U.S. has a military that is at the top of the world and I’m proud to have that for our country. However, I believe we are spending too much money and as a country already deep in debt, this money could go towards many other things besides war such as education, and we should be putting this money to better use – not putting ourselves more in debt with military spending.
The judges would like this answer best because she clearly states an opinion but acknowledges both sides and is not offensive. (Read: Pageant Question About What You Hope President Trump Accomplishes)
