Pageant Question About the Paris Agreement
Today’s Pageant Question of the Day is: Do you agree with the United States leaving the Paris Agreement?
Why this question was asked: It is important to keep up with current events and to be able to articulate opinions about them.
This is how some of our Instagram followers answered the question:
Victoria (_victoriabree): The Paris Agreement was put it place to combat the threats of climate change. In order to achieve these goals the agreement REQUIRES global collective action and for everyone to put forth their best efforts.
Jennifer (jennh326): No I do not, I think it sends the wrong message that our leaders are more concerned with the good of the few rather than seeing that this accord benefits us all as a human race. There is a saying that we need to learn to live together or we will die alone. Though, no matter if we as a country are part of the accord or not, making strides to change how we impact our world starts at the bottom. Change starts with each of us and we need to each do our part.
Yvannah (yvannahhh): I do not agree with the decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Agreement. As one of the most influential countries in the world, we need to set a positive example for the rest of the world, which includes taking responsibility and caring for our planet. Without the planet, we do not have a country. We must take climate change seriously, which requires involvement in the Paris Agreement.
Juliet (little_miss_oklahoma2017_): Yes. If this agreement was beneficial then it would have been passed by Congress. The fact is, to redistribute American wealth while the world’s largest pollutants China and India have no CO2 regulations until 2030 is insane and our lawmakers would have never passed it.
Dacia (dacia_rambousek): As Americans, we should trust the decision made by those we voted into power. That said, as inhabitants of this planet, we also have an obligation to do what is best for sustainability in future generations. So whether a law or an agreement says we should or not, each of us must do what we can to gift our planet to our great-grandchildren and beyond.
Our favorite answer:
Jennifer (jenniferwaldeck8): I do not agree with the decision to leave the Paris agreement and am proud of our elected representatives here in New York who vowed to still uphold it. Not only will climate change become irreversible and catastrophic within 20 years if we continue to emit CO2 at our current levels, but the green energy field is one of the fastest growing job markets. Withdrawing from the agreement takes green energy jobs away from the USA and will hurt our economy. This is why I am proud to work with organizations like Fab Scrap and Keep America Beautiful to help fight global warming.
The judges would like this answer the best because she used facts and personal experience to back up her opinion. (Read: Pageant Question About the Environment)
